Located just off River Park, Winnall Moors makes a lovely diversion for the kids. It’s a great little walk with lots of nice reed beds and benches along the way, but our favourite thing to do there is watch for water voles. The anticipation is almost as much fun as watching them. We can waste ages just sat there, waiting. You have to be really still and quiet and patient, but it’s well worth it, because when they do appear, they’re just adorable and so funny to watch. We’ve had success almost every time we’ve been. My advice is to take a picnic, a newspaper and a sketch book for the kids to draw in. That way, you can kill a good few hours and all have a really nice time while waiting for the water voles.
